Our Student Counsellors

Joel

Hi, I’m Joel, a trainee Psychotherapeutic Counsellor studying Transactional Analysis (TA) as part of my Level 6 Diploma. I am a former Royal Marine. My interest in therapy developed naturally through my own experience of counselling. Having experienced first-hand the value of a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship. Im passionate about creating that same space for others.

Shelley

I’ve lived in Cornwall for 15 years, and it truly feels like home. My journey into counselling began with a Level 2 qualification in Counselling Skills, which helped me accept myself and realise I had more ability than I ever believed possible. That experience sparked a desire within me to offer the same support to others.
I am now building on that foundation as I work towards a Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Therapy, having recently completed my first year of study. I am a registered student member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework, which ensures that our time together is held with care, professionalism, and strict confidentiality.
My first priority is to offer a safe space where you can explore whatever you wish to bring into the room. Non-directivity is at the heart of how I work, as I believe you are the true expert on your own life. My role is to listen and support you as you find your own answers. I focus on being fully present, giving you the time and the calm environment you need to reflect on your experiences and move forward in your own way, at your own pace.
Outside of studying and working, I like to keep things balanced. When I have the time, I enjoy drawing hyperrealism, I love the challenge of creating intense detail and enjoy the quiet, focused space it gives me to switch off and reset. I also love spending quality time with my family and laughing with abandon. I find that staying grounded and having those moments to just be myself helps me bring a calm, steady, and genuine presence to my work.

Jo

Hi, my name is Joanne, also known as Jo. I am a level 5, Person-Centred trainee student counsellor and social care professional.
I have completed Level 2 Introduction to Counselling Skills, Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills, Level 4 Advanced Counselling Skills, and am currently completing the Level 5 Person-Centred Diploma in Counselling and Therapy.
I bring 30 years of experience working within the social care industry, working with people with additional needs, neurodiversity and mental health conditions.
I offer an authentic, congruent, empathetic, non-judgmental, safe, confidential space for clients to grow and develop to reach their full potential. My approach is Person-Centred, meaning that I am non-directive, allowing the client to lead the sessions, whilst I provide the 3 core conditions of Carl Rogers’ theory: empathy, congruence, offering a non-judgmental, confidential space.
My specialist focus areas are neurodiversity (Autism/ADHD), LGBTQIA+, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, and childhood trauma.

Pauline

Hello, I’m Pauline. I’m a psychotherapist in training with the British Psychotherapy Foundation. I offer a safe and confidential space in which you can discuss any difficulties you may be experiencing and we can explore your story in a way that feels supportive. I work with a range of conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement and relationship problems which can be felt differently for different people. I am interested in the link between physical and emotional health. Together we may work with your feelings, thoughts, dreams and memories to try and find understanding, meaning and hope. I have extensive clinical experience in various health settings in the NHS, and counselling and reflective group facilitation with students in Higher Education. I volunteer locally in bereavement support. Low cost sessions may be short term or long term depending on your needs, giving space to talk freely about whatever is on your mind. I offer both online and in-person sessions.

Daisy

I’m in the final few months of my Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling Studies.
My practice draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, with Person-Centred therapy at the heart of my work. I value creating a safe, non-judgemental space where clients feel heard, understood and empowered to explore their experiences at their own pace.
Alongside my training, my work within domestic abuse services has shaped me into a trauma-informed practitioner. I am deeply aware of the impact trauma can have on both the mind and body, and I approach my work with sensitivity, compassion and respect for each individual’s lived experience.

FAQs

What if I can’t afford the counselling rate?

We understand that counselling can be seen as a large financial commitment, please contact hello@yourtimeandplace.co.uk to discuss your options.

How many sessions will it take to help me?

Counselling may be a short or long process depending on your individual needs. At Your Time And Place we work hard to meet your needs and your journey time will be mutually agreed upon and reviewed regularly by you and your counsellor.

Do I get to choose who I work with?

At Your Time And Place, we are fortunate to work with a committed team of student counsellors. During your initial assessment appointment with a qualified and accredited counsellor, your needs will be assessed and the most appropriate counsellor assigned. We do not suggest changing counsellors once your journey has begun other than in exceptional circumstances.

How does counselling work?

By offering our clients a safe and non-judgmental environment, counsellors allow their clients to slowly unpick what is causing difficulty in their lives. You may wish to set goals for change or simply talk through your worries. Either can be hugely beneficial and your counsellor will support you with this change.

What is the BACP and its Code of Ethics? Where can I find it?

All therapists and supervisors at Your Time And Place work under the guidelines set out by the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). Working within their Ethical Framework ensures that clients and counsellors are kept safe at all times. You can download the ethical framework here.

Do the counsellors keep notes?

All therapists are required by the BACP and insurance companies to keep brief notes. This will be explained further to you. Trainee counsellors may also ask if they are able to write about/discuss your work, anonymously during their training and CPD. This is totally your choice and you are welcome to say no. This will not affect the service that you receive.

Our counsellors are here to support you with your individual needs. Even if you are still a little unsure please get in touch and we can discuss your reservations with you.
